I cut out a walking trail, up from the Little Pond northward to a lookout on top of a hill. The forest I worked in had been cut over a long time ago; there were many huge trees lying on the ground. Some places were thick forest and some were quite open. There was a wonderful diversity of lichens in this lush, south-facing area - much more than is usually found in the woods. Some of the red cap and lettuce leaf lichen photos are from here, too. My memory of that very pleasant project includes repeated acts of laying down my saw to take up my camera, then laying down my camera to take up my saw...
